About the Concert

Welcome to ChiFen Music's 2017 winter concert, Chansons A du Coeur. This concert features music of the romantic era which began with the later music of Beethoven and continued through the 19th century.

The music of this period is characterized by the expression ll of powerful emotions about all aspects of human experience. All forms of music flourished, but smaller forms, such as piano and vocal music which could be performed in the home were in great demand. Dramatic forms such as opera were also popular, and this was them time when public concerts arose everywhere, as music was no longer just for the nobility. The romantic era produced great poetry, art, and literature , but found its fullest expression in music, which of all the arts is most connected to the language of the emotions. Today we will hear many beautiful examples of these " songs of the heart”

Our concert also celebrates the 150th birthday of our great country Canada. The students will play several piano selections by the Canadian composers, and the Group Singing at the end of the concert will feature three beautiful Canadian folksongs which the students have worked hard on and are excited to perform today.
